Two workers with Irish aid agency Goal have been abducted in Sudan

first_imgTWO WORKERS WITH Irish aid agency Goal are missing after being abducted while on a routine assignment in Sudan.Goal said it is working with authorities to try and locate the two, who have been missing since Wednesday.Three Goal staff members and a worker from another aid agency were travelling in a vehicle near Kutum town in North Darfur when they were abducted by an unknown group.One of the Goal workers was later released but the other three remain missing.“All relevant authorities have been informed and are working with Goal’s crisis management team and [the] team in country to determine the next course of action,” said Jonathan Edgar, the chief operations officer of Goal.Goal said that it is in contact with the families of the staff members, both of whom are Sudanese.It said that it will be making no further comment about the incident right now.Violence in Sudan has increased significantly since April, with international condemnation of the Sudanese government and its armed forces for killing and wounding civilians.Read: Goal has evacuated staff from South Sudan >last_img
