first_imgPICTURE SPECIAL: Local people were applauded for their contribution to a major Letterkenny Event at the recent award presentations for the St.Patrick’s Day Parade.Representatives of the winners of the eight categories gathered together to receive their plaques.Toni Forrester, Letterkenny Chamber thanked all those who took part in the parade making it one of the best in recent years, she said “The St.Patrick’s Day Parade in Letterkenny is an important event in the town’s calendar and it only works because of the enthusiasm of local groups, sporting clubs, businesses and individuals.“The parade is run by Letterkenny Chamber and is paid for through the contributions of large and small businesses and the kind donations of spectators on the day.“It is a huge voluntary effort by our Chamber board, members and others who provide stewarding, bucket collection and much more besides.”Toni also paid tribute to Anne Condon from Letterkenny Chamber and her staff who really bring the parade together.“We all play out part in the parade but without Anne it certainly would be a much more difficult task and Anne really gets into the spirit of the parade.Toni continued, “We were delighted this year to see so many young people taking part and over the past few years we have seen a great increase in sporting clubs taking part.“All of these add so much to the event and help to create a fun and family atmosphere to the day.”The prizes were sponsored by Brian McCormick Sports & Leisure and celebrated all aspects for the parade.The overall winner and recipient of the Danny Doherty Memorial Shield was Errigal College who had a float celebrating it’s 100th Anniversary.The shield that was first presented in 1994 recognises the contribution made by Danny Doherty in having a Letterkenny Parade.
